The Cabarrus County Commissioners met at a call meeting on March 18, 1963 at 10:OO A.M. at <br /> <br />the Courthouse with .the following members present: <br /> Chairman~ Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners: Oren Hill, W. Frank McCray, McNeil Petrea, M. Smoot Lyles <br /> <br /> This meeting was called during the Board of Equalization and Review meeting. Motion by <br /> <br />Oren Hill, seconded by Frank MCCray to endorse a letter from Kannapolis Merchants Assn. in regards <br /> <br />to the proposed Sunday law, governing sales no~ pending in the N. C. General Assembly. Letter <br /> <br />copied below: <br /> <br /> Board of Commissioners <br /> Cabarrus County <br /> <br /> Dear Mr. James: <br /> <br /> I have been instructed to ask the endorsement and support of the County Commissioners in <br />regard to the proposed Sunday Law governing sales now pezkiing in the North Carolina General Assembly. <br />T~e Legislative Committee of our Association request this action and will appreciate your support.~ <br /> <br /> The text of the proposed law is as follows: <br /> <br /> "Any person, firm or corporation who engages on Sunday in the Business of selling, or sells <br />or offers for sale, on such day, clothing and wearing apparel, clothing accessories, furniture, <br />housewares, home, business or office furnishings, household, business or office appliances, <br />hardware, tools, paints, building and lumber supply materials, ~jewelry, silverware, wa~s, clocks, <br />luggage, musical instruments and recordings, shall upon conviction thereof be fined or imprisoned <br />in the discretion of the court."' <br /> <br /> Thank you for your faworable consideration. <br /> <br /> Very truly yours, <br /> <br /> Kannapolis Merchants Ass'n, Inc. <br /> William J.
