780 <br /> <br /> The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County Commissioners was <br /> <br />held at 9:~0 A.M. on May k, 1970, at the Courthouse, with the following <br /> <br />members present: <br /> <br /> Chairman: C. Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners - Dr. R. B. Ranktn, Jr., C. McNeil Petrea, <br /> <br /> S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr., and Robert A. McClary. <br /> <br />Chatrman James called the meeting to order. Prayer was by the Reverend <br /> <br />W. A. Stegner. Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> Forest Ranger Joe Black reported that the owner of the land leased to <br />the County for the landfill had cut a firebreak around the area used for <br />trash dumptng with the landowner taking full responsibility for any timber <br />damage. The County Attorney advised that since there was an existing law- <br />suit over the timber rt,ghts, an estimate of any damage should be made by <br />the forestry service. Commissioners instructed Mr. Black to have this done. <br /> <br /> M. L. Barnes, Gene Verble, Carl Comer, Alex Patterson, and Planning <br />Director Jerry Myers discussed with the Board a proposal!, for a County <br />recreation program. Petrea made motion, seconded by Hawfleld, to appoint <br />a ten member recreation commission composed as follows: three to serve one <br />year, three to serve two Dears, three to serve three years, and one member <br />of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners. Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> County Attorney James C. Davis told the Board that non-trax funds could <br />be used for recreational purposes but that a referendum would be required if <br />tax money was used. <br /> <br /> County Planning Director Jerry Myers presented a plan for renamtn.g of <br />streets and roads in the County over a three year period. This plan would <br />cost approximately $?0,000, which would entail 'the .renamtn,q and marking of <br />streets in theone mile perimeter area of Concord in 1970~?1, the Northwest <br />section of the County in 1971-72, the remainder of the County outside Concord <br />and Mt. Pleasant in <br /> <br /> Commissioner Ranktn announced the resignation of Dr. J. Roy Hege ~from <br />the Zoning and Planning Board and made a motion to write an official letter <br />of thanks to Dr. Hege for his services as Chairman of the Zoning and Planning <br />Board. Hawfteld m~conded the motion. Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> <br />
