HURT <br /> COUNTY MANAGER <br /> <br /> CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br /> December 7, 1970 <br /> <br />Mr. Glenn Hawfield' Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />Concord, North Carolina <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Hawfield: <br /> <br />With reference to the conference on November 19, 1970, during which <br />you and Mr. McClary informed me of the pressure being exerted upon <br />the newly elected Commissioners for my dismissal as County Manager <br />and Accountant, and the approximate date my dismissal could be <br />expected, please be advised that I have made plans to re-open my <br />office for full time public accounting, and tax practice effective <br />January 1, 1971. The selection of my staff has been completed. <br /> <br />Also, with reference to our discussion on December 1, 1970, I will <br />work with you on a consultant basis until January 31, 1971, as per <br />your request. I believe that every effort should be made to prevent <br />costly interruptions of taxpayer services during departmental <br />personnel changes, especially in view of the increasing volume of <br />all phases of daily business activities of the County. <br /> <br />In order that the transition period for the transfer of my respon- <br />sibilities to my successor be accomplished as smoothly and quickly <br />as possible under the circumstances, I would appreciate your arranging <br />for an audit to be made for the verification of public funds balances <br />under my signature at such time as is convenient between this date <br />and the date the transfer takes place. In the interim, I will carry <br />out my duties as directed by the Board and will.devote such time /' <br />afterward as my schedule will permit. <br /> <br />I have enjoyed the splendid relationship and cooperation of our <br />county officials and employees during the eight years it has been <br />my pleasure to serve the peOple of our great county, and will <br />continue to be vitally interested in the progress of our county <br />governmental functions and the tremendous potential of this area for <br />education, cultural activities and economic stability. <br /> <br />Thanking you, I am, <br /> Yours very truly, <br /> <br /> Hurt <br /> <br /> <br />
