875

The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met at a call

meeting at the Courthouse, Thursday, May 27, 1971, at 3:00 p.m.

Present: Chairman - S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr.

Commissioners Robert A. MCCiary, Charles Gallimore,

C. Frank James, John Hammett

Budget requests from various departments were discussed, but no action

was taken.

Chairman Hawfield pointed out that the Board has until July 28 to set

the final tax rate.

A delegation headed by Gene Cook, representing the Concord Chamber

of Commerce, ~ppeared before the Board and asked for money, specifically

$7,000.00, for a master study plan for an airport for Cabarrus County.

The ultimate goal would be construction of an airport in the Concord-

Kannapolis area. The airport would be built with $250,000.00 in Federal
funds; $125,000.00 in Cabarrus County funds, and $125,000.00 in state money,
but the County would have to make up part of the state allotment if the
state failed to come up with its full share.

Chairman Hawfield told the delegation that the Board would consider

their request, and a decision will be made after this is done.

Having no further business, meeting adjourned.
