The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br /> <br />session at the Courthouse, at 9:00 a.m., June 7, 1971. <br /> <br /> Present - Chairman - S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr. <br /> <br /> Commissioners - Robert A. McClary, C. Frank James, <br /> <br /> Charles Gallimore, John Hammett <br /> <br /> Invocation was by the Reverend George Privette - First Church Nazarene. <br /> <br /> Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> County Attorney Boger presented resolution recorded on Page ~ ~ of <br /> <br />these minutes, changing date of July 6, 1971 meeting to July 12, 1971. <br />Motion, which carried unanimously, was made by H~mmett and seconded by <br />James. <br /> <br /> Motion made by Hammett, seconded by Gallimore and unanimously <br /> <br />carried, to adopt Minimum Lot Size Ordinance and amendment thereto. <br /> <br />This resolution is recorded on Page ~ ~ and becomes a part of these minutes. <br /> <br /> "Resolution Providing for the Issuance of $220,000;O0~School Building <br /> <br />Bond Anticipation Notes" was adopted unanimously upon motion by Gallimore, <br /> <br />seconded by McClary. This resolution is recorded on Page ~7~ and <br /> <br />becomes a part of these minutes. <br /> <br /> Gene Verble appeared before the Commissioners on behalf of the <br /> <br />Cabarrus County Recreation Commission to request $8,500.00 in the new <br />budget to hire a fulltime Recreation Director. Chairman Hawfield told <br />Verble the Board is considering the budget, and would let him know when <br />a decision is reached. <br /> <br /> Bids. for demolition of buildings on Church Street were opened. Bids <br /> <br />submitted as follows: <br /> <br /> Widenhouse House Movers - $9,250.00 <br /> <br /> RogeC R~ssell (Albemarle) - $6,900.00 <br /> <br /> D. H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. - $9,100.00 (Greensboro) <br /> Contract was awarded to Russell, on motion by McClary, seconded <br /> <br />by Gallimore and unanimously carried. <br /> <br /> Following budget discussion, McClary made motion, seconded by <br /> <br />Gallimore and unanimously carried, to hold a special meeting and a <br />public hearing to consider the levy of a 1% local sales tax at 10:00 A.M. <br />on June 21, 1971. This resolution is recorded on Page ~ and becomes <br />a part~ of these minutes. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Gallimere brought before the Board, a letter signed <br /> <br />by citizens of the community of the Old Silverdale School, requesting <br />use of this facility as a playground and picnic area. The letter stated <br />that Jay Robinson, Superintendent of County Schools, favors the idea. <br />Gallimore made motion, seconded by James, to endorse the use of the <br />proper.~y.
