CONCORD PUBLIC LIBRARY

CONCORD, N. C.

office of the Librarian

April 6, 1972

Honorable S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr.
Chairman
Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
Courthouse
Concord, North Carolina

Dear Mro Hawfield:

As you know, the facilities of the Concord Public Library are
totally inadequate to serve the needs of the residents of Cabarrus
County. We are now overcrowded, have no room for future expansion
in our present quarters, and therefore, are unable to provide the
public with the reading material and services which it desires and
deserves.

In order that we may take care of immediate needs and also
prepare for the future, the Board of Trustees of the Concord Public
Library unanimously voted to request that a joint City-County study
committee be appointed to investigate present facilities and needs
of the public library and submit plans and recommendations to the
City and County for future development of a joint City-County library.

We request that your Board consider this request as soon as
reasonably possible and advise us as to your decision°

Respectfully yours,

L. T. Hartsell, III
Secretary

LTH/b f
