The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus, North Carolina met in <br />special session at the County Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina on May 22,1973, at <br />3:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> Present~ Chairman - S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr. <br /> <br /> Commissioners - Robert A. McClary <br /> Charles Gallimore <br /> C. Frank James <br /> John A. Hammett <br /> <br /> George Griffin, architect, appeared before the Board and presented plans for the <br /> <br />new courthouse. Motion by Hammett, seconded by Gallimore to accept plans for the new <br />courthouse and to authorize advertisement for bids for construction of the new courthouse. <br />Vote carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Hammett discussed the possibility of Gary Wilson, manager of the <br /> <br />sign department, obtaining current maps of the county from the Champion Map Company. <br />Action was deferred and Gary Wilson was requested to obtain information relative to the <br />availability of County maps from other local sources. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Hammett discussed the forthcoming Environmental Planning Workshop to <br /> <br />be held in Greensboro. Motion by Hammett, seconded by Gallimore to authorize Gary Wilson <br /> <br />to attend the Workshop. Vote carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Hammett discussed the need for a Soil and Water Conservation <br /> <br />Survey of Cabarrus County. A Soil and Water Survey would cost approximately $60,000 <br />spread over a five year period. Action deferred until the appropriate time during budget <br />hearings. Gary Wilson, Planning Department, was requested to arrange a presentation <br />at the next regular meeting by Mr. Hugh Price from the Cabarrus County Soil and Water <br />Conservation District. <br /> <br /> Motion by James, seconded by Gallimore to advertise for bids for a bulldozer <br /> <br />to be used at the County Landfill. Vote carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Motion by James, seconded by McClary to authorize the purchase of a radio console, <br /> <br />radios for detectives and a walkie-talkie for the sheriff's department. Vote carried <br /> <br />unanimously. <br /> <br /> The County Schools' Budget was briefly discussed, but no action was taken. <br /> <br /> Having no further business, meeting adjourned. <br /> <br /> Clerk to the Board, Acting <br /> <br /> <br />
