The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus, North Carolina, met in special <br /> <br />session at the Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina, on Tuesday, June 19, 1973, at 2:30 p.m. <br /> <br /> Present: Chairman - S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr. <br /> <br /> Commissioners: Robert A. McClary <br /> Charles Gallimore <br /> C. Frank James <br /> John Hammett <br /> <br /> The Board discussed the Schools' budget for the 1973-74 fiscal year. The following <br /> <br />officials were present at the request of the Board to provide data for amplification and <br /> <br />justification of the Schools' budget requests: <br /> <br /> State House of Representatives: Fran Tomlin, Art Thomas and Dwight Quinn <br /> <br /> Vice-Chairman, Concord City School Board: Hal Farrell <br /> Superintendent, Concord City Schools: Bill Irvin <br /> <br /> Chairman, Kannapolis City School Board: Raymond Ward <br /> Superintendent, Kannapolis City Schools: Dr. Grier A. Bradshaw <br /> <br /> Chairman, Cabarrus County School Board: Stewart Black <br /> Associate Superintendent, Cabarrus County Schools: Joseph N. Fries <br /> <br /> Bill Irvin explained the role of the Federal, State, and Local Governments with regard <br /> <br />to f~nding the schools. Dr. Bradshaw discussed the student and plant situation in the <br />Kannapolts School System, and Joseph Fries commented on teacher requirements in the Cabarrus <br />County School System. A discussion developed and questions from the Board were answered by <br />the visiting officials. The officials departed and the Board returned to its deliberations <br />on the Schools' budget. <br /> <br /> Motion by McClary, seconded by Hammet~ to approve the Local Paid Teachers in the <br /> <br />Schools' Current Expense Budget, and to disapprove the increase in Clerical Assistants, <br />except for a 5.5~ salary increase for the Clerical Assistants currently employed. Vote <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> The Board received and opened bids at 4:00 p.m. for Construction of the New Cabarrus <br /> <br />County Courthouse.
