He explained that the hospital would
reimburse the full cost of the pay increase to the County. Mr. McGinnis
stated that officials of the hospital had proposed this pay adjustment
for these deputies as hospital employees had received a pay increase
greater than the 7 percent across the board raise given by the County
to its employees.
The motion made by Commissioner Lentz to pay all law enforcement
personnel the same and not give the 2.25 percent raise to those deputies
assigned to Cabarrus Memorial Hospital failed for lack of second.
The motion made by Commissioner Cook to table action on this
proposal to grant a 2.25 percent pay increase to those deputies assigned
to the hospital until September when the job classification survey has
been completed by the Institute of Government failed for lack of second.
No action was taken by the Board regarding a salary adjustment
for the deputies assigned to Cabarrus Memorial Hospital.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Nash, seconded by Commissioner Cook and
unanimously carried, the Board approved the submission of a grant application
in the amount of $107,813.00 to the Centralina Council of Governments for
the Winter Youthwork Program and authorized Mr. Joe Mingo, Youthwork Program
Director, to bid on this program for Cabarrus County.
Mr. Manuel Kiser requested the Board's permission for a group of con-
cerned citizens to pay all costs to the Board of Elections to hold an
advisory referendum or "straw vote" in the County to determine the public's
wishes on the issue of zoning.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Payne and
unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned.

Clerk to the Board
