31 <br /> <br /> Commissioner Cook made motion, seconded by Commissioner Lentz, to proceed <br />with the relocation of the Communications Center. No vote was taken for <br />this motion. <br /> Sheriff J. B. Roberts reported that a minimum of four additional personnel <br />would be needed to control the doors to the jail and answer the non-emergency <br />telephone on the street level of the Law Enforcement Building if the Communi- <br />cations Center is moved from its present location. He also cited a need for <br />additional personnel to operate the new equipment, increased office space and <br />evidence storage area for the Sheriff's Department, an additional recorder and <br />expansion of the jail. ' <br /> UPON SUBSTITUTE MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner <br />Lentz with Commissioners Payne, Lentz, and Nash voting for and Chairman <br />Bonds and Commissioner Cook voting against, the Board instructed Mr. Charles <br />McGinnis, County Manager, to contact the company which has the communications <br />equipment in storage and acertain if the County can obtain an extension <br />for installing the equipment and the cost involved with the extension in <br />order for the Board to explore the matter further and determine what <br />additional equipment and personnel will be needed by the Sheriff's <br />Department if the Communications Center is relocated. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted resolution stating that Cabarrus <br />County would like for the Centralina Council of Governmen~ to continue to <br />aid this County in preparing grant applications rather than having the <br />State of North Carolina assume the responsibility for preparing the application <br />on behalf of the County. <br /> Mr. Paul Lentz, Vocational Director of the Cabarrus County and Concord <br />City Schools, briefly reviewed the history of adult education in the County <br />and the authority of the State Board of Community Colleges. He stated that <br />the main issue of the controversy between Rowan Technical College and Stanly <br />Technical College centered around financial matters rather than the duplication <br />of services. Mr. Lentz stated that the citizens of the County could benefit <br />from both institutions serving the County. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Nash, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the Board moved to go into Executive Session to discuss <br />the acquisition of land. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Nash and <br />unanimously carried, the Executive Session was terminated. <br /> Chairman Bonds reported that no action was taken during the Executive <br />Session. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting <br />was adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
