Long, Director of Social Services, requested that the
Board consider employing five additional eligibility specialists for the
Department of Social Services due to the influx of applicants for Aid
for Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), Food Stamps, and Medicaid.
She stated that with the combination of the large volume of applicants and
the strict time regulations imposed by a recent court order issued by
Judge James B. McMillian the eligibility specialists were unable to meet
all the requirements at the present time. According to Mrs. Long, the cost
for the five additional employees from December through June 30, 1983,
would total $17,212.52 in County money. The five eligibility specialists
would be assigned as follows:

1 - Food Stamp Office
1 - Intake
2 - Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC)
1 - Medicaid

The Board received the request as information only and Chairman Bonds
asked that the matter be included on the agenda for the Board meeting on
December 6, 1982.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Nash, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and
unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned.

Clerk to the Board
