Tallent, Sr., resident of 57 Flowes Store Road, presented <br />a petition from residents of his community asking that cablevision service <br />be made available to that community. He stated that he had been informed <br />by personnel at Vision Cable of Metrolina that there were not a sufficient <br />number of houses per cable mile for the company to extend service to the <br />Flowes Store Road area. Mr. Tallent requested the Board's assistance in <br />obtaining cablevision service for his community. <br /> Chairman Nash requested Mr. Charles D. McGinnis, County Manager, to <br />contact the General Manager of Vision Cable of Metrolina and request that <br />the area be surveyed and that a report be furnished to the Board at the <br />meeting on August 15, 1983. <br /> Ms. Elizabeth Shrum, County Ranger, briefly reviewed the work of that <br />agency and introduced Mr. Robert Ward, Assistant County Ranger, to the Board <br />of Commissioners. Chairman Nash requested that County Ranger Shrum work with <br />Mr. Hugh Price, Soil Conservationist, to develop a reclamation plan for the <br />area at the County Landfill. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Chairman Nash and <br />unanimously carried, the Board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Donna <br />Udovich from the Senior Citizens Advisory Council. ~s. Udovich is <br />presently serving as a member of the Nursing Home Community Advisory <br />Committee. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the Board appointed Reverend Joel Cherry to the <br />Senior Citizens Advisory Council for an unexpired term ending November 1, <br />1984. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner <br />Barnhardt with Commissioners Milloway, Barnhardt, and Payne and Chairman <br />Nash voting for and Commissioner Lentz voting against, the Board moved <br />to go into Executive Session to discuss a personnel matter. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt <br />and unanimously carried, the Executive Session was terminated. <br /> Chairman Nash reported that the Board had discussed a personnel <br />matter during the Executive Session and that no action was taken. Mrs. <br />Betsy Carpenter, President of the Cabarrus Animal Protection Association, <br />met with the Board during the Executive Session. <br /> Mr. Jerry Schletzbaum, architect with Abrams-Schletzbaum, presented <br />a cost estimate comparing the projected cost for the new construction of a <br />two-story office annex building and the cost of restoration of the Craig <br />Building. AccordSng to Mr. Schletzbaum, the cost of restoring the Craig <br />Building would total $378,750.00 and the new annex building would total <br />$556,000.00. The Board accepted the report as information only with <br />directions to be given to the architect on August 1, 1983, regarding the <br />project. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Payne and <br />unanimously carried, the Board declined the acceptance of the property <br />known as the Carver Library which had been offered to the County by the <br />City of Concord at no charge. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt <br />and unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
