Harold Nash <br /> <br />Chairman, Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />PARTY OF THE FIRST PART <br /> <br />BOARD OF LIGHT AND WATER COMMISSIONERS <br />OF THE CITY OF CONCORD <br />by: <br /> <br />Chairman <br /> <br />PARTY OF THE SECOND PART <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Nash, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Resolution in regards <br />to the proposed railway passenger service between Charlotte and Raleigh. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a passenger train service between Charlotte and Raleigh has <br />been proposed; and whereas, it is necessary that an agreement for the <br />provision of said service be made between the North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation and the National Rail Passenger Corporation (Amtrak); and <br />whereas, the Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus County believes that said <br />train service would be beneficial to the citizens of Cabarrus County and <br />that a larg~ part of the urbanized area of North Carolina would be provided <br />service by scheduling intermediate stops between Charlotte and Raleigh; <br />and whereas, said service would provide connections at Raleigh for Richmond <br />and other metropolitan areas of the northeastern United States; and whereas, <br />the proposed service would provide the only daytime service between the <br />Piedmont area of North Carolina, Raleigh and the northeastern United States; <br />and whereas, the Board of Commissioners supports the concept of alternative <br />modes of transportation for the citizens of Cabarrus County and believes <br />that this train service would provide a viable alternative mode of <br />transportation; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus <br />County: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus County endorses and <br />supports the concept of passenger train service between Charlotte and <br />Raleigh. <br /> <br /> 2. That the Board of Commissioners requests the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation to allocate funds for 403 (b) Passenger Train <br />Service between Charlotte and Raleigh and that said funds be allocated for <br />at least a one-year trial period. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
