577 <br /> <br /> Sheriff Robert M. Canaday reported on the overcrowding occurring in the <br />County Jail and the need to begin planning for future construction of an <br />addition to the jail. <br /> The motion by Commissioner Nash to direct the County Manager and Finance <br />D~rector to prepare information relating to financing the addition to jail <br />by a bond referendum or on a pay-as-you-go plan failed for lack of second. <br /> The motion by Commissioner Barnhardt to approve setting aside $500,000.00 <br />for constructing an addition to the jail on a pay-as-you-go basis failed for <br />lack of second. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Nash, seconded by Commissioner Payne and <br />unanimously carried, the Board agreed to appropriate $500,000.00 for the <br />construction of an addition to the County Jail in the 1984-85 budget. <br /> Mr. Charles D. McGinnis, County Manager, advised the Board that the <br />Manager-recommended amount in the Salaries and Wages line item of the <br />Ambulance Service budget should be $337,646.08 with the other line items <br />relating to the salary appropriation reduced accordingly. He stated he <br />was not recommending part-time salaries to pay off-duty Ambulance Service <br />personnel to transport patients out of the county as had been requested. <br /> The Board reviewed the proposed budgets from the Land Records Department <br />through the Service Garage with the Building Maintenance budget to be reviewed <br />in more detail at a later date. <br /> The Board set budget meetings for 7:00 P.M. on June 6 and June 7, <br />1984, and a tentative meeting for June 11, 1984, at 7:00 P.M. <br /> There being'no additional business to come before the Board, the <br />meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
