603

Chairman Lentz stated that representatives from Rowan Technical
College were unable to attend the meeting on this date to discuss the
Cabarrus Technical Education Consortium as proposed by Mr. James T. Lawler
on June 18. The Advisory Committee for Rowan Technical College does
plan to appear before the Board of Commissioners on July 16, 1984.
Chairman Lentz reported that Dr. Edward H. Wilson, Jr., Executive
Vice President of the Department of Community Colleges, had indicated
that the State would send staff personnel to Cabarrus County to evaluate
the educational needs of the county if the Board of Commissioners wished
for them to do so. He presented the following letter to Mr. Robert W.
Scott, President of the Department of Community Colleges, for the Board's
consideration.

On behalf of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners, we
request the Department of Community Colleges to conduct an analysis
of the educational delivery needs of Cabarrus County. Due to the
continuing conflict between Stanly Technical College and Rowan
Technical College as well as the proposed consortium, we feel it
would be appropriate for the Department to advise us on what would
be educationally sound for Cabarrus County.

We would appreciate the study be conducted as soon as possible.

UPON MOTION of Commissioner P~yne, seconded by Commissioner Nash with
Commissioners Payne, Nash, and Milloway and Chairman Lentz voting for and
Commissioner Barnhardt voting against, the Board directed the letter as
stated above be sent to President Robert W. Scott.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting adjourned at 7:50 P.M.

Clerk to the Board
