264 <br /> <br /> Ms. Jan Sellers, Chief Animal Control Officer, addressed the alleged <br />incidents presented to the Board on December 21, 1987, by Mr. Paul Goodman, <br />Mr. Dean Tate, and Ms. Betsy Carpenter. She reported that Mr. Goodman's calls <br />to Animal Control had been answered in a timely manner and that Mr. Tate had <br />not reported killing or mauling by pit bulls at the time the complaints had <br />been made to Animal Control. Ms. Sellers further stated that Animal Control <br />officers do write citations and answer complaints filed with the department. <br />In conclusion, Ms. Sellers recommended that the Board appoint an Animal <br />Cruelty Investigator to work directly or indirectly with the Animal Shelter <br />and to report directly to the County Commissioners. <br /> Mr. Ray Deal commended the Animal Control employees for their work and <br />stated the department does need more employees and more equipment. <br /> Ms. Susan Hagler praised the Animal Control employees for the manner in <br />which they handled her complaint regarding a pit bull attack. <br /> Deputy Animal Wardens Mark Ehney and Randy Gray spoke in support of <br />Cabarrus County Animal Control. <br /> Ms. Robbie Austin who is an employee of Dr. T. W. Hudson, Veterinarian, <br />praised Chief Animal Warden Sellers on her ability to work with animals and <br />in the operation of Animal Control. <br /> Mr. Ben Dupree of Jamaica Street in Kannapolis spoke in support of Animal <br />Control. <br /> Chairman Lentz stated that the Board was behind Chief Animal Warden <br />Sellers and expressed appreciation for her work. He further stated that in <br />the future all dog problems are to go before the Health Board before coming to <br />the Board of Commissioners. <br /> Commissioner Hamby requested the County Manager to send letters to the <br />municipal governments asking they submit to the Board of Commissioners their <br />appointments to the Cabarrus Utilities Board. <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Payne and unani- <br />mously carried, the meeting was adjourned until 7:00 P.M. on January 14, 1988 <br />in the Commissioners' Meeting Room in the County Courthouse in Concord, North <br />Carolina. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
