385 <br /> <br /> The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br />session at the County Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina, on Monday, <br />June 6, 1988, at 3:00 P.M. <br /> Present - Chairman: James W. Lentz <br /> Commissioners: Kenneth F. Payne <br /> William G. Hamby, Jr. <br /> Martha H. Melvin <br /> R. Giles Moss <br /> The invocation was given by Reverend J. Pierce Evans of Trinity Lutheran <br />Church. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Melvin and <br />unanimously carried, the minutes of May 6, May 9, and May 16, 1988 were <br />approved as written. <br /> Chairman Lentz recessed the meeting of the Board until the conclusion of <br />the meeting of the Water and Sewer District of Cabarrus County. <br /> Chairman Lentz reconvened the meeting of the Board of Commissioners. <br /> The following bids were received on April 21, 1988, for a crawler tractor <br />for the Sanitary Landfill. <br /> <br />LEGAL ADVERTISEMENT DATE: <br />April 1, 1988 <br /> <br /> Equipment <br />Fiatallis FD 20 <br />Internation Dressor TD-20G <br />Caterpillar D7H <br /> <br /> Company <br />E. Pilkington, Health Director, reviewed the bids and <br />reported that the Board of Health had voted unanimously on May 26, 1988, to <br />recommend the purchase of the Caterpillar D7H due to the exceptional service <br />and reliability of Caterpillar equipment in use at the landfill and due to a <br />much higher resale value. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Moss with <br />Commissioners Payne and Moss and Chairman Lentz voting for and Commissioners <br />Melvin and Hamby voting against, the Board awarded the bid for the crawler <br />tractor for the Sanitary Landfill to Carolina Tractor & Equipment Company for <br />a Caterpillar D7H in the amount of $174,594.00 because of the following <br />identifying reasons set forth in a letter dated May 31, 1988, from Mr. William <br />F. Pilkington, Health Director, and as recommended by the Health Board: Due <br />to exceptional service and reliability of Caterpillar equipment in use at the <br />landfill and due to a much higher resale value.
