<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hamby, seconded by Commissioner Melvin
<br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following fee schedule
<br />effective April 1, 1989 for the preparation of court-ordered home
<br />studies by the Department of Social Services.
<br />
<br />That the fee charged for court-ordered home studies be
<br />$150.00 per home studied, and
<br />That the Court may order a waiver of the fee for those
<br />families it determines to be indigent.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Branson C. Jones, Executive Director of the Greater Cabarrus
<br />County Economic Development Corporation, presented the CorporationVs
<br />1988 Annual Report. He reported strong industrial growth during 1988
<br />with six new companies locating in the county.
<br /> Mr. Ron Stearns, Chairman of the Poplar Tent Community Association,
<br />presented the goals and desires of the Community of Poplar Tent in
<br />seeking incorporation. He requested that the Chairman and Vice-Chairman
<br />meet with himself and Mr. Ron Page, Vice-Chairman of the Community
<br />Association, to further discuss the incorporation proposal. A meeting
<br />was scheduled for Thursday, March 16, at 7:00 P.M. at the Courthouse.
<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Moss, seconded by Commissioner Hamby
<br />and unanimously carried, the Board tabled the appointment of an
<br />alternate member to the Zoning Board of Adjustment until the next
<br />meeting.
<br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Moss and
<br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the following Jail Construction
<br />contract change orders.

<br />Electrical Construction - Change Order E-3 - Ro D. Franklin
<br />Electric, Inc. - Addition of 3 gang floor boxes, fifteen
<br />receptacles, and telephone outlets, including all boxes, conduit,
<br />fittings, wire and labor, at the renovated office portion of the
<br />existing jail building. Add $2,622.00.
<br />
<br />Plumbing Construction Change Order P-1 B & W Construction
<br />Company of Concord, Inc. 1" hose station installation in second
<br />floor chase 249. Hose station consisting of hose reel, 100 feet of
<br />one inch, hose, and a 1" nozzle with ball valve. Add $880.00.
<br />
<br />General Construction Change Order Number 3 Cabarrus
<br />Construction Co., Inc., Raise the height of the records room 132
<br />countertop from 30" to 39". Add $391.00.
<br />
<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Melvin, seconded by Chairman Lentz and
<br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the request for a carnival at
<br />Zayre in Kannapolis during the week of March 13-18, 1989 at a license
<br />tax of $150.00 per week. The request for a carnival at Zayre on April
<br />10-15, 1989 will be considered by the Board on April 3.
<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hamby, seconded by Commissioner Moss
<br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the purchase of Lot #15 of
<br />Green Meadow Estate, No. 8 Township from William O. Barnhardt, Jr. and
<br />Rebecca H. Barnhardt by the Cabarrus County Board of Education at a
<br />purchase price of $6,500.00 and subject to the provisions of the
<br />purchase contract. This property will provide a second access, if
<br />needed, to the site of the new Mt. Pleasant High School.
<br /> As suggested by Mr. Michael M. Ruffin, County Manager, the Board
<br />agreed to meet with the Cabarrus County Board of Education on Monday,
<br />April 17, at either 5:00 P.M. or 8:30 P.M. to review the 1989-1990
<br />Schools budget request. Plans for the meeting will be finalized during
<br />the next week.
<br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, the
<br />meeting was adjourned at 5:40 P.M.
