119 <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Moss, seconded by Commissioner Hamby and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the following Jail Construction Change <br />Order. <br /> <br />General Construction Contract - Change Order Number 4 - Cabarrus <br />Construction Company, Inc. Furnish all labor and materials and <br />install ceramic tile (according to contract requirements) in <br />shower/locker room #273, per request and approval of Sheriff Canaday <br />on April 20, 1989. Add $859.95. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Moss, seconded by Commissioner Hamby and <br />unanimously carried, the Board authorized the Chairman to execute the Fiscal <br />Year 1989-1990 Consolidated Contract between the State of North Carolina as <br />represented by the Department of Human Resources, Division of Health Services, <br />and the Cabarrus County Health Department for the purpose of maintaining and <br />stimulating the advancement of health in North Carolina. Activities included <br />in the contract included Hypertension, Health Promotion, W.I.C., Home Health, <br />Family Planning, AIDS Control, Tuberculosis, Transfer of Escrow, General, <br />Maternal Health, and Child Health. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Moss, seconded by Commissioner Hamby and <br />unanimously carried, the Board granted permission for a fireworks display at <br />the Charlotte Motor Speedway on June 13 and June 24, 1989. Both events will be <br />supervised by Southern International Fireworks. <br /> Chairman Lentz recessed the meeting at 4:25 P.M. until the conclusion of <br />the Water and Sewer District meeting. <br /> Chairman Lentz reconvened the meeting of the Board of Commissioners. <br /> Mr. Michael M. Ruffin, County Manager, announced that Mr. Chester E. <br />Avant, Building Inspections Supervisor, was retiring on June 30, 1989. The <br />Board expressed its appreciation to Mr. Avant for his 20 years of service with <br />Cabarrus County. <br /> Mr. Ruffin reminded the Board that the North Carolina Wildlife Resources <br />Commission would conduct a public hearing at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 12, 1989, <br />at the Mt. Pleasant High School Auditorium regarding the spotlighting of deer <br />in Cabarrus County. This hearing had been requested by the Board in January, <br />1989.- <br /> The Board scheduled a tour of the new jail facility at 4:00 P.M. on <br />Monday, June 12, 1989. <br /> Commissioner Moss reported that Sheriff Canaday had requested to appear <br />at the next budget review session to discuss the kitchen equipment for the jail <br />addition. The Board invited Sheriff Canaday to meet with them at 6:15 P.M. on <br />Tuesday, June 6, 1989. <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Hamby and <br />unanimously carried, the Board moved to go into executive session to discuss <br />possible land acquisition. <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Hamby and <br />unanimously carried, the executive session was terminated. <br /> No action was reported at the conclusion of the executive session. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman Lentz <br />recessed the meeting until 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 6, 1989, in the Grand Jury <br />Room at the County Courthouse. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
