July 18, 2016 (.Regular Meeting) <br />Page 2830 <br />E. Return of Items <br />Items may be returned to any Library in the Cabarrus County system <br />regardless of where they were checked out. They may either be <br />brought into the Library during business hours or placed in the <br />outside drops 24 hours a day, with the exception of Launchpad <br />Tablets, which should be returned in- person to a circulation desk. <br />Launchpads returned in the book drops will incur a $2 fee, or <br />charged for any damage, whichever is greater. (Note: outside drops <br />at the Harrisburg Library are only available during park hours) <br />Fines for overdue items should NOT be put in the drops. <br />Patrons are responsible for materials until they are checked in. <br />Patrons who return items in the outside drops before entering the <br />Library may be required to wait until the drop is emptied to checkout <br />if they have reached the limit for certain material types. <br />III. Fines and Fees <br />A. Overdue Materials <br />Overdue fines are assessed for items returned more than one business <br />day past their due date. Fines are assessed only on days the <br />libraries are open. Fine rates are as follows: <br />• All materials— $0.20 per day the library is open <br />B. Maximum Fines <br />In order to encourage return of long- overdue materials, there is a <br />maximum per -item fine of $5.00 on all items. <br />C. Verbal Reminders <br />Patrons will be verbally reminded about any outstanding fines or <br />fees on their account each visit. <br />D. Overdue notices <br />Courtesy reminders are sent via email (to those with a valid email <br />address) four days before an item is due. Overdue notices are <br />delivered primarily by email or automated telephone 14, 28, 42 and <br />56 days after an item is due. Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy <br />and failure to receive a notice will not be considered grounds for <br />waiving a fine. After six months all overdue items will be declared <br />lost and the patron will be charged for each item. <br />E. The Safekeeping of Materials <br />Patrons are responsible for the safekeeping of materials checked <br />out on their library card. <br />1. Lost Materials <br />Patrons who lose materials will be charged the list price of the <br />book at the time it was purchased plus a $5 processing fee. Items <br />are considered lost after 6 months. <br />2. Damaged Materials <br />When materials are damaged, there will be a charge for the repair <br />of the item or the cost of replacement plus a processing fee if <br />the item cannot be repaired. <br />These costs will be determined by the library staff depending on <br />necessary repairs. The Costs Associated with Repairable Damage <br />chart will be referenced for costs associated with damaged <br />materials, and may be found below. <br />3. Replacement Copies. <br />The library will accept replacement copies of lost /damaged items <br />that meet the following criteria: <br />• The replacement item is new and unopened (in the case of media <br />replacements) <br />• The replacement item is identical in format to the item <br />lost /damaged, including format (hard or soft cover) , ISBN <br />number, edition, etc. <br />Library staff reserves the right to refuse any replacement item <br />that does not meet the standards above. A processing fee of $5.00 <br />per item will be charged to the patron's account upon acceptance of <br />replacement items. Any replacement charges for a lost /damaged item <br />will be waived upon the acceptance of a suitable replacement item. <br />
