June 15, 2015 (Regular Meeting) <br />Page 2434 <br />WHEREAS, our parks, recreation, and senior centers are vitally important <br />to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in our <br />communities, ensuring the health of all citizens, and <br />contributing to the economic and environmental well -being of a <br />community and region; and <br />WHEREAS, parks, recreation and senior center programs build healthy, <br />active communities that aid in the prevention of chronic disease, <br />provide therapeutic recreation services for those who are <br />mentally or physically disabled, and also improve the mental and <br />emotional health of all citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, parks, recreation and senior center programs increase a <br />community's economic prosperity through increased property value, <br />expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, the <br />attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and <br />WHEREAS, parks, recreation, and senior center areas are fundamental to the <br />environmental well -being of our community; and <br />WHEREAS, parks and natural recreation areas improve water quality, protect <br />groundwater, prevent flooding, improve the quality of the air we <br />breathe, provide vegetative buffers to development, and produce <br />habitat for wildlife; and <br />WHEREAS, our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological <br />beauty of our community and provide a place for children and <br />adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Parks <br />and Recreation Month; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County recognized the benefits derived from parks, <br />recreation resources, and senior centers; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim July 2015 as Park and Recreation Month. <br />Adopted this the 15th day of June, 2C15. <br />/s/ Stephen M. Morris, Chairman <br />Board of Commissioners <br />(C -2) EMS - 2015 Mission: Lifeline - EMS Gold Level Recognition Award <br />Alan Thompson, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director, stated the <br />American Heart Association recognizes the vital importance of Emergency <br />Medical System providers to the overall success of Mission: Lifeline STEMI <br />Systems of Care. This national award is presented for consistently exceeding <br />care measures in the management of heart attack patients. He announced this <br />year Cabarrus County EMS has been awarded the 2015 Gold Level Recognition. <br />He introduced Dr. Craig Corey, Medical Director, and Captain Bob Williams, <br />EMS Shift Supervisor, and presented the Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Level <br />Recognition Award to them. <br />Captain Williams and Dr. Corey accepted the award. <br />Dr. Corey stated this is a direct result of the Boards' continued <br />support of excellent people and excellent equipment. <br />Chairman Morris commended the Cabarrus County EMS for their <br />accomplishments. <br />(C -3) Human Services - Vulnerable Adult and Elder Abuse Awareness Month <br />Proclamation <br />Chairman Morris read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Shue, seconded by Commissioner Mynatt and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation. <br />Proclamation No. 201510 <br />VULNERABLE AND ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH 2015 <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />
