<br />announced 40 Cabarrus County Paramedics and Telecommunicators were involved
<br />in successful resuscitations this past year. The following Cabarrus County
<br />Paramedics and Telecommunicators were present for recognition of encounters
<br />with patients who were successfully discharged from the hospital after
<br />suffering cardiac arrest: James Maneval, Mary Richardson, Mark Kirk, Blake
<br />Basinger, Tim Crayton, Amanda Wortman, Ryan Hamilton, Doug Bickerstaff, Ann
<br />Coffey and Mark Pressley.
<br />On behalf of the citizens of Cabarrus County, Chairman Poole expressed
<br />appreciation for their hard work, including those who were en -call and unable
<br />to be recognized at the meeting.
<br />(C -3) Library - 11 411 - 4 Counties, 1 Book, 1 Community" Proclamation
<br />Dana Eure, Library Director, displayed the 4 Counties, 1 Book, 1
<br />Community brochure, listed several events included in the program and invited
<br />citizens to participate.
<br />Chairman Poole read the proclamation aloud.
<br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Burrage, seconded by Commissioner
<br />Oesterreich and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following
<br />proclamation:

<br />Proclamation
<br />WHEREAS, reading is a joy for all ages which allows young and old to
<br />come together in discussion on a variety of topics; and
<br />WHEREAS, every community has special traits that make it unique. These
<br />traits develop over time and are woven into the fabric of its citizens' daily
<br />lives. In many ways, our community defines who we are; and
<br />WHEREAS, every community comes together through shared history, shared
<br />knowledge and shared experiences. As our community grows and changes, it can
<br />become more difficult to maintain and to honor the traits that are unique and
<br />special; and
<br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Public Library has partnered with the
<br />public libraries, parks departments, community colleges and others in
<br />Davidson, Rowan and Stanly counties to form one community for the 411 - 4
<br />COUNTIES, I BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY project; and
<br />WHEREAS, 411 - 4 COUNTIES, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY is one way to bring
<br />together each diverse individual in Cabarrus, Davidson, Rowan and Stanly
<br />counties to share an experience together - the experience of reading the same
<br />novel. This collective experience not only encourages literacy; it also
<br />encourages dialogue and the expression of thoughts and ideas among
<br />individuals who may not otherwise find a connection; and
<br />WHEREAS, the months of March and April 2014 have been selected for the
<br />411 - 4 COUNTIES, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY project; and
<br />WHEREAS, "Mr. Penumbra's 24 -Hour Bookstore" by Robin Sloan is selected
<br />as this year's 411 - 4 COUNTIES, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY project; and
<br />WHEREAS, in celebration of the 411 - 4 COUNTIES, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY
<br />project created many ways to come together and participate throughout March
<br />and April by participating in book discussions, entering contests,
<br />participating in "The Quest for the Code" at the Arena, by meeting author
<br />Robin Sloan and many other events.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners County
<br />declare the months of March and April as 411 - 4 COUNTIES, 1 BOOK, 1
<br />COMMUNITY months in Cabarrus County and commend its observance to all
<br />citizens.
