Volunteers from Troop 704, the Scoutmaster, parents and <br />church members joined on Saturday, March 8 to help complete the project by <br />assisting with final project tasks and filling the plots with soil. There <br />were 25 total volunteers who worked 5 hours each for a total value of <br />$3,156.00. <br />Perry Gabriel, Active Living and Parks, Program Manager, presented a <br />plaque of appreciation to Zach in recognition of his project. <br />Chairman Poole commended him for his service to the county. <br />(C -3) EMS - Recognition for Achieving the 2014 Mission Lifetime Silver Level <br />Award <br />Dr_ Lee Garvey, American Heart Association, recognized Cabarrus County <br />Emergency Medical Services for their excellence in care in the management of <br />heart attack patients. He advised the American Heart Association recognizes <br />the vital importance of Emergency Medical System providers to the overall <br />success of Mission: Lifetime STEMT ,Systems of Care. This national award is <br />received for consistently exceeding care measures in the management of heart <br />attack patients. On behalf of the American Heart Association, Dr. Garvey <br />presented the Silver Mission: Lifeline EMS Agency award to Alan Thompson, <br />EMS Director. <br />On behalf of Cabarrus EMS, Mr. Thompson accepted the award. He advised <br />of a partnership between the American Heart Association and local hospitals, <br />to develop a system of care to reduce the time to treatment to patients <br />experiencing a heart attack. He also commended staff, leadership and <br />hospital leadership. <br />(C -4) Recognition. of William J. Fox on His Retirement from Cabarrus County_ <br />Emergency Medical Services <br />Alan Thompson, EMS Director, recognized Sergeant William J. Fox on his <br />retirement from his position as EMS Crew Chief. Mr. Thompson highlighted a <br />number of Mr. Fox's accomplishments during his twenty - five -year tenure and <br />commended him for his service to Cabarrus County. <br />Vice Chairman Burrage presented a service award in appreciation of his <br />many years of service and dedication to the county. <br />Mr. Fox accepted the award and expressed appreciation. <br />(C -5) County Manager - Recognition of the Carolina TarWheels Program for <br />their National Championship Victory <br />Jennifer Langford, Carolina TarWheels Team Coordinator, announced the <br />Carolina TarWheels began in 2008 after her father, Donnie Langford saw the <br />need for a program in Cabarrus County. She stated the team travels across <br />the United States, competing in adaptive sports. She said the Carolina <br />TarWheels play within the Carolina Wheelchair Conference and was one of 25 <br />teams in the nation invited to play in the National Championship Tournament. <br />The Carolina TarWheels competed in seven games over a four -day period at the <br />National Championship Tournament before their final victory over the San <br />Diego Wolf Pack, bringing home the national championship to Cabarrus County. <br />Several members of the Carolina TarWheels were in attendance. The <br />Carolina TarWheels basketball team players are as follows: Donnie Langford, <br />Fete Morgan, Jim Goodwin, Steve Lister, Roger White, Donna Barnett, Trey <br />Bates, David Hix, Richard. Travis, Eric Penniger and Jennifer Langford. <br />Donnie Langford commended the team, stating the team is a support <br />system for disabled athletes. <br />(D) INFORMAL COMMENTS <br />Chairman Poole opened the meeting for informal Public Comments at 6:53 <br />p.m. She stated each speaker would be limited to three minutes. <br />David Whiteley, resident of 3 Rosegate Avenue SW in Concord, <br />representing the Cabarrus Amateur Radio Society, commented on benefits of HAM <br />radio operators to the community and invited everyone to Radio Amateur Field <br />Day on June 28 -29 at 854 Crestmont Drive in Concord. <br />
