Master Gardner <br />Volunteers are recruits and <br />utilized to educate citizens <br />about current issues that <br />maintain and improve our <br />landscapes. Required <br />pesticide certification and <br />recertification instruction <br />ensures landscapers and <br />private farmers know how to <br />protect themselves and the <br />environment while applying <br />pesticides. <br />Community Resource <br />This program is to help <br />Development <br />individuals and groups <br />acquire leadership and <br />decision making capacities <br />to guide and actively <br />participate and serve <br />voluntary in local and state <br />organizations and within <br />their communities. In 2012, <br />Community and Rural <br />Development offered 15 <br />educational classes to 185 <br />Cabarrus County citizens <br />that gained knowledge and <br />skills to better lead their <br />community, manage their <br />finance, and strategically <br />plan to create better and <br />safer neighborhoods. <br />Family and Consumer <br />This program provides <br />Sciences (FCS) <br />educational classes in the <br />area of Foods and Nutrition, <br />Food Safety, Food <br />Preparation, Aging and Human <br />Development. Some of the <br />most popular classes are <br />canning, freezing and food <br />preparation workshops such <br />as Cook Smart /Eat Smart, and <br />the series of 10 week <br />classes entitled Steps to <br />Health. Answer a number of <br />food safety and food <br />preparation questions by <br />phone. "Simply Local" on <br />Channel 22 also reaches <br />residents with quick and <br />easy ideas using healthy, <br />local foods. The Extension <br />and Community Association <br />(ECA) volunteers carry on a <br />number of educational FCS <br />programs and outreach <br />efforts. <br />
