January 3, 2011 (Work Session) Page 273
County Manager - Sale of Old Bethel School Property
John Day, County Manager, reported some time ago the Board approved the
sale of the old Bethel School property by auction with a minimum bid of
$200,000.00; however, no bids were received. Therefore, the County has
pursued demolition of the building. A response to a RFP (Request for
Proposals) was received for asbestos abatement, which is required prior to
demolition, and those costs (asbestos abatement and demolition) far exceed
the minimum bid requirement. Further, he said he was informed of a
fundraising effort in Midland to purchase the property and recommended the
County attempt to auction the property again, without a minimum bid.
Commission Carruth MOVED to place a resolution authorizing the sale of
the old Bethel School property without a minimum bid on the January 18, 2011
Agenda as a Consent item. Vice Chairman Poole seconded the motion.
Following discussion, the MOTION unanimously carried.
APPAC - Request for Applications
Commissioner Carruth announced
"veterinarian" position on the Animal
Committee ( APPAC) due to a resignation.
that applications are needed for a
Protection and Preservation Advisory
Adjourn
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Vice Chairman Poole,
and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:43 p.m.
WE —" wvmfdl
