November 15, 2010 (Regular Meeting)
Page 214
Description: The existing public park is in poor condition and
under -used. The proposed improvements will bring new life to the
park and serve as a pedestrian gateway into the campus.
Improvements include brick sidewalks, water feature, site
furnishings, drainage, landscaping, irrigation, walls, lighting,
and associated wiring.
Status: Pending funding, this project will immediately begin with
site design. Construction is projected to begin in summer /fall
2011.
NCRC Interstate Signage - NCDOT.
Budget: $90,000. This is the full estimate for this project.
However, the City is hopeful that this number can be reduced
somewhat through a partnership with NCDOT.-
Description: There are currently no directional signs on the
interstate directing travelers to the NCRC. This would resolve
that issue with new directional signs being constructed and
installed on 1 -85 at exit 54, exit 63 and exit 60.
Status: Pending funding and an agreement with NCDOT, this sign
installation project would occur in 2011.
Final pavement of North Main Street.
Budget: $130,000.
Description: The reconstruction of North Main Street in front of
the Core Laboratory building needs its final phase of asphalt to
finish the project. Currently, the exposed sewer manholes create
driving hazards on this well travelled street. This is now a
City- maintained street.
Status: Pending funding, this work will begin in Spring 2011.
8th Street Stormwater Line.
Budget: $834,000.
Description: Replacement of approximately 310 linear feet of
storm drain pipe and the installation under Loop Road at the 8th
Street Greenway. This project will open up approximately 500 of
the NCRC site to future development. Originally included with
this stormwater line was a pedestrian tunnel (similar to 8th
Street /Village park project) but it was determined that this was
not a high priority at this time.
Status: Design work is completed. Pending funding, construction
will begin in 2011
Completion of NCRC Phase I Streets.
Budget: $360,000.
Description: The final asphalt overlay of Research Campus Drive,
Laureate Way, and Biotechnology Lane needs to be completed within
the NC Research Campus. The final paving will finish the roadway
network and will remedy the Current situation of manholes and
valves posing driving hazards to motorists. These streets are now
maintained by the City.
Status: Pending funding, this work will begin in Spring 2011.
NCRC Phase II -A Infrastructure.
Budget: $3,471,296.
Description: This project is an extension of Research Campus
Drive (in front of the Core Laboratory Building) north to Main
Street and Loop Road (with two side streets) as well as a new
street connecting Loop Road and Laureate Way. Included with the
street extensions would be water, sewer, stormwater, streetscape
improvements. This would open up significant land for new
vertical construction on the NCRC. Specifically, there is a new
