January 23, 2007 (Recessed Meeting) Page 299 <br />Chairman Carruth recognized the elected municipal officials in <br />attendance and encouraged members of the audience to speak with their elected <br />officials after the meeting. He commented on the County's responsibility to <br />build and pay for schools and how, over time, the funding of school operating <br />costs has passed from the state to the county. <br />Liz Poole, Chair of the Cabarrus County Schools Board .of Education <br />(CCSBOE), responded to a question from the audience concerning school <br />construction costs. Also, Cindy Fertenbaugh, CCS Board Member, commented on <br />the school system's low administrative costs and use of grant funding <br />whenever possible. She reported CCS is already doing many of the items to <br />reduce construction costs that were identified in recent study prepared by <br />the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. <br />Commissioner Mynatt commented on the importance of working together to <br />solve community issues, including working with the cities and schools one-on- <br />one, reviewing school. constructions costs and establishing a blue ribbon <br />committee. <br />Vice Chairman Juba stated there is not one answer to the growth problem <br />and the cities and -the County need to work together to balance residential <br />and commercial growth. <br />Adjourn <br />Chairman Carruth thanked everyone for attending and asked the audience <br />to sign the attendance roster before leaving. <br />With there being no further business, Chairman Carruth adjourned the <br />meeting at 7:33 p,m. <br />e- <br />Cler t the rd <br />
