January 23, 2007 (Recessed Meeting) Page 299 Chairman Carruth recognized the elected municipal officials in attendance and encouraged members of the audience to speak with their elected officials after the meeting. He commented on the County's responsibility to build and pay for schools and how, over time, the funding of school operating costs has passed from the state to the county. Liz Poole, Chair of the Cabarrus County Schools Board .of Education (CCSBOE), responded to a question from the audience concerning school construction costs. Also, Cindy Fertenbaugh, CCS Board Member, commented on the school system's low administrative costs and use of grant funding whenever possible. She reported CCS is already doing many of the items to reduce construction costs that were identified in recent study prepared by the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. Commissioner Mynatt commented on the importance of working together to solve community issues, including working with the cities and schools one-on- one, reviewing school. constructions costs and establishing a blue ribbon committee. Vice Chairman Juba stated there is not one answer to the growth problem and the cities and -the County need to work together to balance residential and commercial growth. Adjourn Chairman Carruth thanked everyone for attending and asked the audience to sign the attendance roster before leaving.
