<br />May 181 2006 - Recessed Meeting <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />619 <br /> <br />The costs for the Masonry Scope and for the Mechanical <br />Scope each contain a $150,000.00 "exposure hold" for a total of <br />$300,000.00 ("Exposure Holds"). The Construction Manager is <br />accepting the lowest bid from those bidders for the masonry and <br />mechanical scopes. The bid of each lowest bidder is <br />substantially lower than the next lowest bid for each scope. <br />The $150,000.00 \\Exposure Hold" for each scopel is but a <br />part of the difference in the lowest and next lowest bid for each <br />scope and is designed to protect the parties. The Owner is <br />protected because it obtains the lowest bid for each scope and <br />the CM is protected to the amount of the Exposure Hold in the <br />event that there is a substantial error by either or both <br />subcontractors in the calculation of its cost of the work as <br />contained in the bid which it submitted. <br /> <br />Chairman Carruth stated the Board is accountable to the people of <br />Cabarrus County for the public safety and for being good stewards of the tax <br />dollars. He commented on the importance of communication between the County <br />and the Turner Construction representatives and asked that Mr. Gass plan on <br />giving monthly updates at Board meetings. He also stressed the importance of <br />safety and security on the job site. Finally, Chairman Carruth stated the <br />importance of all working together and thanked officials with Turner <br />Construction and Ware Bonsall Architects for their work on this project. <br /> <br />Commissioner Privette stated <br />regarding illegal aliens. He asked <br />citizens assurances that none of <br />aliens. <br /> <br />there were concerns in <br />if Turner Construction <br />the subcontractors will <br /> <br />the community <br />could give the <br />employ illegal <br /> <br />Mr. Nelson stated he would look into getting some assurances requested <br />by Commissioner Privette. <br /> <br />Chairman Carruth announced that an official groundbreaking will be held <br />on June 12 although work will begin prior to that date. <br /> <br />Recess of Meeting <br /> <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman <br />Carruth recessed the meeting at 9:25 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, <br />2006, in the Multipurpose Room at the Governmental Center, to begin work on <br />the FY 2006-07 County Budget. <br /> <br />J~ .j.~ <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br />
