<br />July 10, 2006 (Regular Meeting) <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />active military personnel and young people with a focus on community service; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Janice Hill MacLeod is President of Harrisburg's American <br />Legion Auxiliary Unit 523 which was formed in January 2005; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Janice MacLeod was named the 2005-2006 Unit President of the <br />Year by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of North Carolina, during <br />its annual Convention held June 15-17, 2006, in Raleigh; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mrs. MacLeod was chosen for this prestigious honor from a <br />group of eight nominees among the 182 Auxiliary Units in North Carolina; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in nominating Mrs. MacLeod for this award, memhers of her Unit <br />described her as "being passionate and tireless in her work for the <br />Auxiliary, leading the organization in a wide range of community projects.H <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />recognizes Janice Hill MacLeod on being selected as the 2005-2006 Unit <br />President of the Year by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of North <br />Carolina, and expresses sincere appreciation to Mrs. MacLeod for her <br />dedicated service on behalf of our veterans, young people and the community. <br /> <br />This the 10th day of July 2006. <br /> <br />/s/ Robert W. She commented on the <br />Auxiliary's current programs and said she hoped this recognition will further <br />spur the organization's involvement in the community. <br /> <br />(C-2) Recognition of Sgt. C.T. Broadway on His Retirement from the Cabarrus <br />County Sheriff's Office <br /> <br />Chief Deputy Paul Hunt <br />retirement from the Cabarrus <br />began his employment with the <br />retire on July 28, 2006. <br /> <br />recognized Sergeant C. T. Broadway on his <br />County Sheriff's Office. Sergeant Broadway <br />Sheriff's Office on December 8, 1981 and will <br /> <br />On behalf of the Board, Vice Chairman Juba presented a plaque to <br />Sergeant C. T. Broadway in appreciation for his 24 years of dedicated service <br />to Cabarrus County and its citizens. <br /> <br />Sergeant Broadway thanked the Board for the recognition. <br /> <br />(C-3) Presentation of the Ch3 Biannual Disbursements of Employee <br />Contributions to Local Nonprofits <br /> <br />Chairman Carruth reported two years ago County employees created their <br />own employee-managed charitable contribution program called Cabarrus Helping <br />Hearts and Hands (Ch3). He said County employees can financially support <br />worthy causes and agencies in Cabarrus County through this program. He <br />introduced Kay Honeycutt, Ch3 Secretary, to present the employees' <br />contributions for the first half of the year to local nonprofits. <br /> <br />Ms. Honeycutt presented the 2006 Biannual Contributions totaling <br />$20,615.20 from County employees to the following nonprofit agencies: <br />American Red Cross - $1,764.00; ARC of Cabarrus County - $818.00; Coltrane <br />L.I.F.E. Center $642.00; Community Free Clinic $1,290.50; Cooperative <br />Christian Ministry $2,574.00; CVAN $4,268.50; Habitat for Humanity <br />$1,708.00; Hospice of Cabarrus County $3,866.00; Meals on Wheels <br />$1,902.00; Salvation Army - $912.00; and the United Way of Central Carolinas <br />- $870.20. The following agency representatives accepted the donations and <br />explained how those funds will assist their organizations: Nancy Litton - <br />American Red Cross; Sue Price - ARC of Cabarrus County; Ann Davis - Cabarrus <br />Meals on Wheels; Susan Caudle - Coltrane L.I.F.E. Center; Venetia Skahen - <br />Community Free Clinic; Ed Hosack Cooperative Christian Ministry; Mary <br />Margaret Flynn CVAN; Dean Johnson Habitat for Humanity of Cabarrus <br />County; Stacey Farias - Hospice & palliative Care of Cabarrus County; Pat <br />Ritchie, Jr. Salvation Army; and Jodi Ramirez United Way of Central <br />Carolinas.
