Design of Annex and LEe/Jail Building to remain as currently approved <br />. One-story rear portion of Old Tribune Building must be removed before <br />Annex construction begins <br />. Cost of all structural analysis and any stabilization to rear of Old <br />Tribune Building must be paid by County to avoid delay of project <br />. Demolitions/structural work to Old Tribune Building must begin <br />immediately to avoid delaying project <br />. Property at corner of Corban Avenue and Union Street may not be large <br />enough to encourage new construction <br />Costs to Cabarrus County: <br />. Redesign of Annex/LEC/Jail - None <br />. LEC building shifts East along Corban Avenue; less relationship between <br />LEC and Courthouse <br />. Removes needed staff parking <br />. Takes away some space for future jail expansion and pushed future <br />expansion closer to houses on Union Street and Washington Lane <br />Costs to Cabarrus County: <br />. Redevelopment of corner of Corban Avenue and union Street - none if <br />County sells property to private developer <br />(6-8 Months Delay) <br />o votes <br /> <br />Mr. Cayado also presented the Union Street and Corban Avenue elevations <br />as originally designed and as revised to show the various options. <br /> <br />Tom Barnett with Turner Construction Company reported on the initial <br />investigation of the Tribune Building and explained the difficulty in placing a <br />price on the demolition of only a portion of the building. He estimated a cost <br />of $500,000.00 for selective demolition, shoring up the remaining structure and <br />providing other work as needed during the process. <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter opened the meeting for public comments on the Jail <br />project. <br /> <br />Harry McKay, resident of Spring Street, presented information and showed <br />pictures of a number of buildings, such as the old public library, old post <br />
