June 7, 2004 Page 489 <br /> <br />Arena and Events Center <br /> <br /> Mark Chappuis, Arena General Manager, presented the proposed budgets <br />for the Arena and Events Center, County Fair, Food Services, Grounds <br />Maintenance, Building Maintenance and Facility Services. He discussed the <br />various types of events at the Arena and reported that negotiations continue <br />on a proposed contract with a professional basketball team. Also, Mr. <br />Chappuis reported the Convention and Visitors Bureau has approved a grant to <br />pay for a study on the use of the Arena for equine events. <br /> <br /> Mary Ann Cooper, Fair Coordinator, gave a brief overview of the <br />proposed Fair budget and discussed preparations for the 2004 County Fair. <br />She reported she is working with the Department of Aging on plans for a <br />Senior Citizens Day. <br /> <br /> Kenny Robinson, Auditor, reviewed a proposed change in the catering <br />contract for the Arena. The annual management fee will be reduced to <br />$30,000.00 with the County paying approximately $368,000.00 for the kitchen <br />equipment. This contract amendment will be on the June 15=n agenda for the <br />Board's consideration. <br /> <br />Tourism Authority <br /> <br /> Ann Sternal, Executive Director of Convention and Visitors Bureau, <br />presented the proposed budget for the Bureau. She addressed the increase in <br />tourism, efforts to expand the religious markets and the request for a Sports <br />Marketing Manager. <br /> <br /> Mr. Day advised he had recommended the new Sports Marketing position; <br />however, the position may only be filled after a comprehensive economic <br />development strategy has been formulated and implemented. Efforts are <br />currently underway to coordinate tourism and economic development in Cabarrus <br />County. <br /> <br />Recess of Meeting <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Chairman Freeman and <br />unanimously carried, the Board recessed the meeting at 9:40 p.m. until 6:00 <br />p.m. on June 8, 2004, in the Multipurpose Room at the Governmental Center. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
