Freeman, Chairman <br />Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />(F-11) .Procl~-tion - Brain Injur~ Awareness Month - October 2004 <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Brain injury is a serious, national public health epidemic <br />affecting at least 5.3 million Americans; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Every 21 seconds, someone in the United states will sustain a <br />traumatic brain injury (TBI), which equals more than 4,000 people daily; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Each year, at least 50,000 Americans die and 90,000 Americans <br />experience the onset of life-long disabilities as a result of sustaining a <br />brain injury; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Each year in North Carolina over 36,000 people are seen in the <br />emergency departments for TBI; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Prevention is the only known cure; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The mission of the Brain Injury Association of America is to <br />create a better future through brain injury prevention, research, education <br />and advocacy; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Brain Injury Association of American and the Concord Area <br />Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Support Network strives to increase <br />awareness and understanding of brain injuries and to decrease the number of <br />brain injuries; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby proclaim October 2004, "Brain Injury Awareness <br />Month" in Cabarrus County and call upon all government agencies, health <br />organizations, communications media and citizens of Cabarrus County to <br />observe this month with appropriate recognition whereof. <br /> <br /> Adopted this 20tn day of September, 2004. <br /> <br />/s/ Robert M Freeman <br />Robert M. First, the purchase of ten personal computers to replace old <br />computers with operating systems that will not interface with the new County <br />Munis software and older computers that are well past "end of life" status. <br />This action was recommended by the County's Information Technology <br />Department.
