<br />November 15, 2004 <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />668 <br /> <br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br />session in the Commissioners' Meeting Room at the Cabarrus County <br />Governmental Center in Concord, North Carolina on Monday, November 15, 2004, <br />at 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Present - Chairman: Robert M. Freeman <br />Vice Chairman: Richard D. Suggs <br />Commissioners: Carolyn B. Carpenter <br />Robert W. Carruth <br />Coy C. Privette <br /> <br />Also present were John D. Day, County Manager; <br />County Attorney; Frankie F. Bonds, Clerk to the Board; <br />Deputy Clerk to the Board. <br /> <br />Marilyn D. Porter, <br />and Kay Honeycutt, <br /> <br />Chairman Freeman called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. <br />Chairman Suggs was not present for the beginning of the meeting. <br /> <br />vice <br /> <br />Girl Scout Junior/Cadette Troop 566 conducted <br />Scouts participating in the ceremony were: Kassie <br />McKinney, Kelly Magee, Rebecca Flowe, Amanda Braswell, <br />Brittany Hillenburg and Kristyn Strum. <br /> <br />the Flag Ceremony. <br />Hastings, Madison <br />Ashley Hillenburg, <br /> <br />Reverend Dr. John A. uJac" Coad of the Concord A.R.P. Church gave the <br />invocation. <br /> <br />(A) APPROVAL OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner <br />Privette with Chairman Freeman and Commissioners Carpenter, Carruth and <br />Privette voting for, the Board approved the minutes of October 18, 2004 <br />(Regular Meeting) as written. <br /> <br />(B) APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Carpenter <br />with Chairman Freeman and Commissioners Carpenter, Carruth and Privette <br />voting for, the Board approved the agenda with the following additions: Item <br />C-2 - Recognition of the 5th Anniversary of Concord Mills and Item G-4 <br />Budget Amendment - Purchase of Two School Buses. <br /> <br />vice Chairman Suggs arrived at 6:40 p.m. and was present for the <br />remainder of the meeting. <br /> <br />(C) RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATION <br /> <br />(C-l) Recognition of the Employee Softball Team, Cabarrus County Crushers, <br />on Winning the Parks and Recreation B-Division Co-ed Championship <br /> <br />Mr. George Culp, Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, <br />congratulated the Cabarrus County Crushers on winning the championship in the <br />Parks and Recreation B-Division Co-Ed Softball League. He reported the County <br />Crushers was the first ever co-ed softball team comprised of County employees <br />from multiple departments. Mr. Culp recognized David Baxter, Public <br />Information Officer and head coach of the Crushers, who accepted the award on <br />behalf of the team. Mr. Baxter expressed appreciation to the Board for their <br />support of the Parks and Recreation Department and for the opportunity to <br />participate in the Co-ed Softball League. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Vice Chairman Suggs <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution honoring <br />the Cabarrus County Crushers. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2004-46 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Cabarrus <br />softball <br />residents <br /> <br />County Parks and Recreation Department offers <br />leagues and other sports programs to encourage <br />to enjoy athletic pursuits. <br /> <br />adult <br />adult <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Cabarrus County employees for the first time formed a co-ed <br />softball team - the Cabarrus County Crushers - bringing together <br />employees from eight county departments. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the softball team served as a morale builder by <br />employees a wonderful way to foster friendships and to <br /> <br />offering <br />increase <br />
