There were
some discrepancies in the scope of the proposed work and the road project was
put out for formal bids. By awarding the contract to Jones Brothers, Inc.,
(low bidder), Mr. Clifton advised that the County should realize a credit of
$135,000.00 from Matthews Construction, Inc., for work eliminated from their
original contract.

UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth
and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following action: (1)
withdrew previous approval of Change Order Request #30 with Matthews
Construction, Inc. on the Expo Project; (2) awarded the contract to Jones
Brothers, Inc., for the widening of Old Airport Road and improvements to NC
49 at the Expo in the amount of $525,499.19; (3) accepted the credit of
approximately $135,000.00 from Matthews Construction, Inc., for work
eliminated from their original contract; and (4) authorized the County
Manager to execute the contract with Jones Brothers, Inc. on behalf of
Cabarrus County.

Mr. Clifton reported that there would be a tour of the Expo facility on
Wednesday, June 12, at 5:00 p.m. for members of the Concord City Council and
Board members.

Mr. Downs reviewed three Change Order requests for the Expo project.
