22 <br /> <br />Economic Deve~opmen~ Issues <br /> <br /> Chairman Fennel introduced discussion concerning the County's future <br />role in economic development and its relationship with the Economic <br />Development Corporati°n (EDC). Currently, the County provides all funding <br />for operating the EDC. The Board discussed various options, including the <br />operation of EDC by the Chamber of Commerce. However, no specific direction <br />was given. <br /> <br />Study o£ Fire Services Throughout Cabarrus County <br /> <br /> Mr. Downs gave an update on the fire services study that was directed <br />by the Board during budget deliberations for FY 2001. He stated the <br />departments are experiencing such problems as lack of qualified <br />volunteers/employees,, aging equipment and uneven distribution of tax money. <br />The Study should be complete by budget review time. <br /> <br />Fin~cin~ for the School Construction Projects <br /> <br /> To facilitate the completion of the $40 million financing for the three <br />new schools, Mr. Hartsell proposed that the Board approve a motion <br />authorizing necessary action to occur as needed. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board authorized the publication of notices of <br />exchange or otherwise, as necessary, and authorized .executiOn by the Chairman <br />or County Manager, as necessary, of those instruments, in standard form, <br />i.e., deeds, leases, agency agreements and the like, for the real property <br />acquisition, disposition and transfer for the Rocky River Middle, Cox Mill <br /> Elementary and the Harris Road Middle School projects. <br /> <br />RECESS OF MEETING <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman <br />Fennel recessed the meeting at 1:55 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, <br />February 15, 2001, in the Multipurpose Room at the Governmental Center. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
