Fennel, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Chairman Fennel and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the Resolution as presented by <br />Chairman Fennel recognizing the achievement of the Lady Eagles Volleyball <br />Team. <br /> <br /> Board members commended Coach Hunt and the team members for their <br />outstanding volleyball season. <br /> <br />BOARD ORGANIZATION (Count~ Manager Presiding) <br /> <br />Chairman Fennel turned the meeting over to Mr. Clifton. <br /> <br />Election of Chairman <br /> <br /> Mr. Clifton called for nominations for Chairman of the Board for the <br />next calendar year. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Privette expressed appreciation to Commissioner Fennel for <br />his leadership for the past two years. He listed some of the accomplishments <br />during Commissioner Fennel's tenure as county commissioner, including the <br />reduction in the tax rate from 70 cents to 56 cents and the construction of <br />numerous new schools. Further, he described Commissioner Fennel as the <br />"education commissioner" of North Carolina. Stating it is always good to <br />pass the flag on to someone else to see if they can provide adequate <br />leadership, Commissioner Privette nominated Commissioner Freeman as Chairman. <br /> <br />Mr. Clifton asked if there were other nominations for Chairman. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Carruth nominated Commissioner Fennel for re-election as <br />Chairman, stating the Board had worked well together during the past year <br />under his leadership. <br /> <br /> Mr. Clifton asked if there were any other nominations. There being <br />none, he called for a vote on the two nominees. The vote for Chairman was as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Voting for Commissioner Freeman - Commissioners Privette, Suggs and <br /> Freeman <br />Voting for Commissioner Fennel - Commissioners Carruth and Fennel <br /> <br /> Mr. Clifton stated that Commissioner Freeman had been elected as <br />Chairman of the Board. He turned the meeting over to Chairman Freeman. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Fennel expressed appreciation for having had the <br />opportunity to serve as Chairman and commented on the cohesive manner in <br />which the Board members have worked together. He also reviewed recent <br />accomplishments in the areas of education, economic development and reduction <br />of the property tax rate and stressed the importance of continuing support <br />for education. <br /> <br /> Chairman Freeman commended Commissioner Fennel for his "impeccable job" <br />as chairman. He commented on continued work for the betterment of the people <br />of Cabarrus County, specifically providing appropriate schools and technology <br />to train the children to be leaders in the future. Further, Chairman Freeman <br />thanked the Board for allowing him to serve as Chairman and stated he would <br />be calling on all members for assistance as well as seeking input from the <br />public. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Suggs expressed appreciation to Commissioner Fennel for <br />his service to Cabarrus County and commended him on doing a "superb" job as <br /> <br /> <br />
