408 <br /> <br />Basketball Champions on March 11, 2000, defeating the basketball team of <br />Greensboro Dudley High School 56-52 in overtime; and <br /> WHEREAS, the championship victory by the Vikings was the culmination of <br />a highly successful 1999-2000 basketball season, having an impressive 23-6 <br />record; and <br /> WHEREAS, the team's pride and commitment to excellence was s}nnbolized <br />by dedication and hard work both on and off the basketball court; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Vikings, through their display of good sportsmanship, <br />motivation and inspired team play, have brought great honor not only to the <br />team members but to their school and the entire community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners salutes the Central Cabarrus High School Vikings for an <br />outstanding 1999-2000 basketball season and for winning the State 3A <br />Championship and extends this expression of pride and commendation to each <br />team member, Coach Scott Brewer, members of the coaching staff and all others <br />associated with the basketball program at Central Cabarrus High School. <br /> <br />Adopted this the 20tn day of March, 2000. <br />/s/ Arne L. Fennel, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner <br />Barnhart and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the "Resolution Honoring <br />the Central Cabarrus High School Vikings" as presented by Chairman Fennel. <br /> <br />"Chairman's Prayer Breakfast" Announcement - Chairman Fennel <br /> <br /> Chairman Fennel announced that a Chairman's Prayer Breakfast would be <br />held at the Cabarrus Senior Center on Friday, May 5 (day after National Day <br />of Prayer), at 7:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be U. S. Representative <br />Robin Hayes. The organization ~America Again" will help sponsor the event. <br />The cost of the breakfast will be $5.00 to be paid at the door. Persons may <br />make reservations for the event by calling the County Manager's Office at <br />788-8100 or America Again at 782-8946. <br /> <br />Pr0clamation - County Government Week (April 9 - 15, 2000) <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded <br />Privette and unanimously carried, the Board adopted <br />Proclamation. <br /> COUNTY GOVERNMENT WEEK <br /> April 9 - 15, 2000 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />by Commissioner <br /> the' following <br /> <br />WHEREAS, county government is one of the oldest forms of local government <br /> in the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, county government's primary concern is to assure that county <br /> leaders provide information and encouragement to its citizens so <br /> that together they can build strong sustainable communities which <br /> nurture the economic, environmental and social well-being of all <br /> citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County and the other county governments in North <br /> Carolina play a key role in the governmental partnership as the <br /> local provider and facilitator of important services for the <br /> community; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County and its employees provide a wide spectrum of <br /> services to meet the needs of the public, including such programs <br /> as health care, child and elder care, environmental protection, <br /> social services, job training, parks and recreation, emergency <br /> medical services and law enforcement; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County serves as a major partner in the public education <br /> system, contributing its share of funding to elementary-secondary <br /> schools as well as to community colleges; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners proclaims the week of April 9 - 15, 2000 as <br /> County Government Week in Cabarrus County <br />and urges all citizens to be more involved in and aware of issues facing <br />Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Adopted this the 20th day of March, 2000. <br /> <br />/s/ Arne L.
