218 <br /> <br />Request for Financial Participation <br /> <br /> The Board reviewed the request from Ms. Myra Morrison, Chair of <br />the Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors, for the <br />County to participate financially in the Porter celebration on June 4, <br />1999. Expenses were anticipated at $4,000.00 to $6,000.00. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner <br />Carpenter and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to co-sponsor the <br />celebration honoring the Thomas Porter Family as the State 1999 <br />Conservation Farm Family of the Year in an amount up to $3,000.00. The <br />celebration will be held at the Porter Farm on June 4, 1999. <br /> <br />Funding for the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2000 Conference <br /> <br /> The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners has <br />requested all counties to contribute to the NACo 2000 Annual Conference <br />that will be held in Charlotte in July 2000. Most counties have <br />contributed three cents (3¢) per capita for this celebration. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner <br />Privette and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to contribute <br />$3,600.00 to the NACo 2000 Annual Conference based on a County <br />population of 120,000. <br /> <br />Budget Review <br /> <br /> The Board reviewed the departmental budgets for the Board of <br />Commissioners, County Manager, Tax Assessor and Tax Collector. <br /> <br /> Mr. Clifton reported the proposed County budget includes a one <br />and one-half percent (1~%) cost-of-living adjustment for County <br />employees based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase. <br /> <br /> Mr. Moorhead gave a brief overview of the proposed Human <br />Resources and Veteran Service/Safety budgets. <br /> <br />Recess of Meeting <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, <br />Commissioner Casper recessed the meeting at 8:45 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. <br />on Tuesday, May 25, 1999. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
