475 2. They will select adoptable animals from the general population at the shelter and will prepare the animals for viewing (bath, groom, etc.). Once selected and prepared these animals will be moved to the areas designated for adoptable animals. This will restrict the general public from entering into the areas of the shelter which will be used for quarantine of animals. 3. Once one of the animals is selected for adoption, the Humane Society will have a veterinarian come to the shelter and examine the animal, give necessary shots, etc. and the animal will be placed in the adoption section of the Shelter. When a citizen chooses an animal to adopt the citizen will be required to pay a fee of $65.00 for a dog and $35.00 for a cat. This fee will be paid to Cabarrus County for that animal. 4. At the time the new owner receives their animal the Humane Society representative will have the new owner execute appropriate paper work that will document who adopted the animal and release the Humane Society and Cabarrus County from any liability concerning the animal adopted. The Humane Society representative or coordinator will present'to the Animal Control Division supervisor a signed assumption of ownership and release from liability form along with a request for payment to the Humane Society in the amount of $65.00 for each dog and $35.00 for each cat. This request for payment will then be processed through the county finance department. 5. If the Humane Society selects an adoptable animal and prepares it for adoption and it is not adopted within the allotted time period the Humane Society will be allowed to adopt the animal without payment of fees. 6. Animal Control will hold the animals for up to 7 days or through one weekend to allow the Humane Society the opportunity to select and attempt to adopt out the animals that come into the department's custody. The Humane Society understands that if the animals they choose for adoption are not adopted they will not be able to hold any more animals than the space allocated for that purpose will adequately accommodate. Ordinance No. 1998-01 AMENDMENT TO CABARRUS COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES CHAPTER 10 ANIMALS BE IT ORDAINED that Section 10-3 and Section 10-58 of the Code of Ordinances, Cabarrus County, North Carolina are hereby amended to read as follows: Section 10-3. Penalty for Violation of Chapter Any person violating the provision of this chapter shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor and punished in accordance with section 1-7. Section 10-58. Adoptions; Spay/Neuter. Appropriate animals that come into the custody of the Animal Control Division will be offered for adoption. Persons wishing to adopt an animal from the shelter shall pay a fee in the amount of $65.00 for dogs and $35.00 for cats which shall be used to offset the cost of the adoption program and veterinarian services related to the adoption of the animals. Persons adopting an animal from the shelter shall be encouraged to have the animal spayed or neutered. Adoptable animals that are not chosen for adoption within the time limits established by the Animal Control Division may be adopted by the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County without payment of the adoption fee.
