She expressed concern about the impact of additional homes on <br />the current overcrowded school conditions in Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> Mr. Clifton advised that decisions regarding the schools, including <br />multi-track scheduling and split shifts, are a function of the school boards <br />and not the Board of Commissioners. <br /> <br />REPORTS <br /> <br />Local Sales and Use Tax Update <br /> <br /> An update on the local sales and use tax for the quarter was included in <br />the agenda. The third quarter sales tax was $3,248,894 or 1.16 percent less <br />than the previous year for the same time period. <br /> <br />Recycling/Yard Waste Collection Survey Results <br /> <br /> The results of the recycling/yard waste collection survey were included in <br />the agenda. A total of 2,020 surveys were returned from the approximately <br />8,000 mailed to all BFI customers who were asked to vote on the following <br />issues: <br /> <br />1. Do you want weekly curbside recycling collection for a fee of $2.48 <br /> per month? (781 were for recycling; 1,225 were against) <br />2. Do you want weekly curbside yard waste collection for a fee of $4.50 <br /> per month? (161 voted yes; 1,741 voted against.) <br /> <br />Report on the First Gabarrus County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day <br /> <br /> A written report was received from Mr. David Goff, Extension Agent, 4-H, <br />regarding the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day held on April 25, 1998. <br />A total of 63,557 pounds of household hazardous waste was collected in <br />addition to other items such as scrap tires, batteries, motor oil, etc. The <br />cost of disposal and recycling of items collected was $25,700.00. <br /> <br />Recess of Meeting <br /> <br /> There,being no further business to come before the Board, Vice-Chairman <br />Carpenter recessed the meeting at 8:35 p.m. until 6:00 P.M. on Monday, June <br />22, 1998. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
