Clementr Sarah M. Choice and Ernest J. Jonesr Jr.~ on <br />their Retirement from the Department of Social Services <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Cook, Social Services Director, recognized Mr. Ernest J. Jones, Jr. <br />on his retirement from the Department of Social Services. Mr. Jones began work <br />at the Department on January 16, 1975 and retired on June 30, 1997. <br /> <br /> On behalf of the Board, Commissioner Carpenter presented a plaque to Mr. <br />Jones in appreciation for his service to Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> Ms. Melba Clement, who retired in June with 20 years of service, was on a <br />family vacation and could not be present for the meeting. Ms. Sarah Choice, who <br />retired in April after five years of service, was absent due to illness. <br /> <br />Presentation of the 1997 National Association of Counties Achievement Award to <br /> <br />Emergency Medical Services for its "Unique EMS Vision Proves Successful" Program <br />and Adoption of Resolution Recognizing Fieldcrest Cannon for its Participation <br />in the Joint Venture Establishing a Kannapolis EMS Station <br /> <br /> Chairman Gasper presented the 1997 National Association of Counties <br />Achievement Award to Mr. Ron Harwood, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director. <br />The award was in recognition of the joint project by Cabarrus County and <br />Fieldcrest Cannon establishing an ambulance station in the fire department <br />building at Fieldcrest Plant Number 1. Since the station opened in 1995, the <br />average response time in the Kannapolis area has dropped from 7 minutes to 4.2 <br />minutes during the last quarter of FY 1997. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Niblock read the following Resolution which was presented by <br />Chairman Casper to Mr. Pete Cayado, Fieldcrest Cannon Director of Corporate <br />Security. <br /> Resolution No. 1997-22 <br /> <br />Resolution Honoring Fieldcrest Cannon <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Fieldcrest Cannon has been and continues to be an <br />outstanding corporate citizen of Cabarrus County: and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Fieldcrest Cannon has continuously sought to improve <br />the quality of life for the citizens of Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br /> <br />
