Dr. Tyson expressed concern <br />regarding the decrease in current expense funding for Kannapolis Schools and <br />asked the Board to consider the following action: (1) Move the proposed three <br />percent (3%) increase in current expense funding to a higher percentage; (2) Add <br />additional capital outlay money to the budget; and (3) Assume the cost of debt <br />service for the A. L. Brown installment purchase. <br /> <br /> Ms. Laura Marlow, speaking as a representative of the Kannapolis Middle <br />School faculty, a parent, and a conservative taxpayer, supported funding for the <br />Kannapolis City Schools. She stated the importance of retaining and improving <br />the current standard of education by the Kannapolis Schools. <br /> <br /> Mr. Larry Phillips, Kannapolis Fire Chief and member of the EMS Study <br />Council, addressed the importance of the response time of eight minutes. He also <br />discussed the need for an ambulance in the Kannapolis area. <br /> <br /> Ms. Millie Hall, Chair of the Kannapolis Board of Education, asked the <br />Board to support the needs of the Kannapolis City Schools as well as the Cabarrus <br />County Schools. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jeff Parker, member of the EMS Study Council, spoke in support of <br />funding for the Emergency Medical Services and the importance of the eight-minute <br />response time. <br /> <br /> There was no one else present to address the Board, and Chairman Barnhart <br />closed that portion of the meeting. <br /> <br /> Chairman Barnhart thanked the audience for their attendance and input. <br />He then recessed the meeting at 7:50 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, May 26, <br />at the Harrisburg Fire and Rescue Building in Harrisburg. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
