499

Chairman Carpenter reported that Commissioner Simmons would be out of town
on the evening on April 6, the date on which the Board is scheduled to make a
decision about the rezoning of the Concord Speedway property.
Commissioner Simmons presented a letter from Dr. Ralph Johnston,
Superintendent of the Kannapolis City Schools, requesting information regarding
the BoardWs decision about the use of the airport settlement funds. In his
letter, Dr. Johnston stated the Schools needed at least $600,000.00 in order to
bid the air conditioning work for A. L. Brown High School and complete the
project this summer. There was lengthy discussion about the appropriation of
the airport settlement funds; however, no consensus was reached. Mr. Hartsell
advised that the Kannapolis Board of Education could advertise for bids prior
to the BoardWs resolution of the issue involving the airport settlement funds.
Commissioner Hamby indicated that he would talk with Dr. Johnston regarding this
matter.
There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman
Carpenter recessed the meeting at 9:15 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 3,
1992.

Clerk to the Board
