A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF <br />CABARRUS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, MARKING THE 225TH <br />ANNIVERSERY OF THE FOUNDING OF CABARRUS COUNTY <br />AND RECOGNIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COUNTY. <br />WHEREAS, during the time population increased in the area following the American <br />Revolutionary War, the northeastern part of Mecklenburg County was taken <br />by the North Carolina legislature for Cabarrus County in 1792. Cabarrus <br />County was formed on December 29, 1792 from Mecklenburg County. It <br />was named in honor of Stephen Cabarrus of Chowan County, Speaker of <br />the North Carolina House of Commons; and <br />WHEREAS, in July 2017, the population of Cabarrus County was 205,473. The County <br />includes the cities of Concord, Kannapolis and Locust as well as the towns <br />of Harrisburg, Midland and Mount Pleasant. The county seat is Concord; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, 2017 marks the 225th anniversary of Cabarrus County, marking decades of <br />remarkable history, extraordinary human endeavor, unique and essential <br />diversity, tireless civic and social activism, heroic individual and community <br />accomplishments, selfless sacrifice, progressive idealism, shrewd and <br />innovative governance, an outstanding local economy and a caring <br />populace; and <br />WHEREAS, since its inception, Cabarrus County has a been a great neighbor and true <br />friend to surrounding counties, often leading by example or co -championing <br />causes of spectacular value to residents; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners hereby proclaim the year 2017, as: <br />C-3 Page 40 <br />
