H <br />Cabarrus County <br />EMS <br />eaBaxxuo Lus Ywo `J2efeaae <br />Date: 25 January 2018 <br />Topic: Cabarrus EMS Director Alan Thompson to Retire <br />Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director Alan Thompson <br />will retire on 29 March 2018 with thirty one years of service in the retirement <br />system for Emergency Medical Services. <br />Alan Thompson began his career in public safety in 1985 as a volunteer <br />firefighter before beginning his EMS career in 1989 and coming to Cabarrus <br />County in 1990. He has served over twenty eight years with Cabarrus County. <br />He also served in the Army National Guard from 1986-1992. <br />Thompson has served as a paramedic in the positions of field training officer, <br />relief supervisor, supervisor, and assistant director prior to being appointed to the <br />position of EMS Director. Additionally he has served as a tactical paramedic, a <br />state medical assistance team member, ambulance strike team leader, educator, <br />advanced hazardous materials medic, and track medic over the course of his <br />career. <br />Thompson obtained an Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Science from <br />Davidson Community College and a Bachelor Degree in Emergency and <br />Disaster Management from Western Carolina University. Additionally, he <br />received certifications as a Nationally Registered Paramedic, Tactical Emergency <br />Medical Specialist, and Level II Instructor/Coordinator in addition to many other <br />professional development programs and certifications. <br />Alan Thompson has been instrumental in the advancement of the emergency <br />medical services in Cabarrus County through his involvement with a variety of <br />patient care programs, policies, changes, and initiatives. He has also been <br />involved with multiple boards and committees at local, regional, and state levels. <br />Alan will spend time with his family and focus on hobbies and other interests <br />during his retirement while continuing to serve the community as an emergency <br />services educator and local pastor. <br />AWachmenl number 1 \n <br />C-2 Page 27 <br />
