CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Consent Agenda <br />APRIL 16, 2018 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />SUBJECT: <br />Finance - Cabarrus County Schools Renovation Request for J.N. Fries <br />Middle School <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) is requesting $300,000 to make <br />renovations to J.N. Fries Middle School. Currently, the space at J.N. Fries <br />is 50 percent middle school and 50 percent Performance Learning Center. <br />A new Performance Learning Center is being constructed, and the <br />program will move out of the J.N. Fries location. Cabarrus County Schools <br />would like to renovate the school and convert the entire space back to a <br />middle school. <br />The funds requested are as follows: <br />. $30,000 to change office space into classrooms; <br />. $130,000 to increase the capacity of school and to purchase more <br />devices and technology; and <br />. $140,000 to add sports back to the middle school by purchasing <br />uniforms and restoring fields, etc. <br />This project is included on a list of FY19 projects to be considered for <br />Capital Reserve funding. Cabarrus County Schools have requested <br />funding prior to June 30, 2018. If approved by the Cabarrus County <br />Commissioner's, this project would need to rise to the top of the list of <br />projects to be funded with Capital Reserve funding. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to approve the $300,000 J.N.
