VI. FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT <br />Buildings that are equipped with electrically managed, manually operated fire alarm systems shall be <br />maintained in accordance with NFPA 72 requirements. When activated, the system will sound alarms <br />that can be heard above the ambient noise levels throughout the workplace. The fire alarm will also be <br />automatically transmitting to the fire department. Employee's should refer to and follow the Safety & <br />Emergency Procedures Guide "Fire Emergency Plan" for evacuations during fire alarm activation. <br />Buildings that are equipped with automatic sprinkler systems shall be installed and maintained in <br />accordance with NFPA 13, standard for the installation of sprinkler systems. Systems are inspected <br />annually by certified sprinkler contractors to comply with NFPA 13 and state code requirements. <br />Fire extinguishers must be kept fully charged and in their designated places. The extinguishers will not <br />be obstructed or obscured from view. <br />The fire extinguishers will also be inspected by Infrastructure and Asset Management, at least monthly, <br />to make sure that they are in their designated places, have not been tampered with or actuated, and are <br />not corroded or otherwise impaired. Attached inspection tags shall be initialed/dated each month. <br />The location of all hydrants, hose houses, portable fire extinguishers, or other fire protective equipment <br />should be properly marked with arrows and signs painted on the pavement. <br />VII. TRAINING <br />Risk Management and Emergency Management are responsible for annual training of the proper use of <br />fire extinguishers in their work areas. Employees shall be familiar with evacuation routes. The training of <br />all employees shall include the locations and types of materials and/or processes which pose potential <br />fire hazards. The training program shall also emphasize the following: <br />1. Use and disposal of smoking materials <br />2. The importance of electrical safety <br />3. Proper use of electrical appliances and equipment <br />4. Unplugging heat -producing equipment and appliances at the end of each work day <br />S.
