• Earthquake <br />Has the potential to cause extensive damage to buildings, water systems power systems, <br />communications systems roads, bridges and other transportation infrastructure. Such <br />events often overwhehn first responder resources. In coastal areas, tsunamis, or tidal <br />waves, are a hazard following major earthquakes and underwater tectonic activity. A <br />transit system's assets could be used for evacuation purposes after damage assessment. <br />• Landslide/Avalanche <br />Has the potential to close roadways, damage vehicles and facilities and injure employees <br />and passengers. <br />• Dust storm <br />Usually arrives suddenly in the form of an advancing wall of dust and debris which may <br />be miles long and several thousand feet high, and usually last only a few minutes. <br />Blinding, choking dust can quickly reduce visibility, causing accidents. While dust <br />storms may last only a few minutes, they tend to strike with little warning. <br />CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE <br />• Power outages <br />Whether short or long in duration, can impact overall ability to operate transit services <br />and limit functional nature of transit equipment and facilities. <br />• Computer crashes/cyber attacks <br />Cause loss of critical data and negatively impact the ability to schedule and dispatch <br />services. <br />• Communication system failure <br />Can have serious effects on the ability to deliver service and keep employees out of <br />harm's way. <br />• Supply chain interruption <br />Transit service is dependent upon a continuous supply of fuel, lubricants, tires, spare <br />parts, tools, etc. Interruption of material supplies due to weather conditions, roadway <br />closures, acts of terrorism, acts of war, or loss of supplier facilities can limit your ability <br />to maintain service <br />• Vehicle tires <br />Cause transit employee and passenger injuries and death and damage or loss of transit <br />equipment and have the potential for lawsuits. <br />• Facility loss <br />Attachment number 5 \n <br />F-5 Page 322 <br />
