AREA LAND USE PLAN ( 29 <br />FOCUS AREAS <br />--4 BLACKWELDER <br />An area of agriculture today, t is also the ideal location for future residential <br />development as well as a compatible mix of nonresidential uses adjacent to NC -49. <br />--* MOREHEAD WEST <br />The western gateway into Harrisburg this area was the subject of the Morehead West <br />Area Plan (2017).This area offers Harrisburg the best opportunity for job growth. <br />-*SHAMROCK <br />Positioned between existing neighborhoods, this area is a draw for residential <br />development with easy access to nearby schools and parks. <br />--*HICKORY RIDGE <br />This area encompasses the site of the new elementary school (opening Fall 2019) <br />and a potential future park, which will attract residential development <br />The evolution of the Planning Area will occur over a period of years. However, some <br />areas will be subject to development pressures in the near future. Each focus area <br />named above has been studied as part of the planning process to better understand <br />development potential consistent with the future land use vision. Each set of conceptual <br />illustrations on the pages that follow convey one of several possibilities. Consideringthe <br />Potential use of parcels collectively, decisions about future development on individual <br />parcels can be made In a manner that optimizes the utilization of land while adhering <br />to the community's objectives.
