Article III. The Pay Plan <br />Section 15. Bilingual Incentive <br />The County will provide a language incentive for those employees providing translation services within <br />their departments and to other areas, as requested by management. The Department Head must request <br />eligibility by position where they identify a business need and submit to Human Resources for approval <br />by the County Manager. <br />Employees will be eligible for an annual incentive of $1,200 added to their pay ($46.2540 per pay period <br />for 2426 pays per year) if they pass a proficiency test in Spanish or other identified language as approved <br />by the County Manager. Employees must pass an oral proficiency exam at an advanced or superior level <br />by a testing authority selected by the County. Those wishing to retest following an unsuccessful attemptwill pavfor the retest. The emplovee s <br />DepaFtment Headsupervisor is responsible for contacting Human Resources to set up testing. Incentive <br />pay will begin during the pay period that follows satisfactory results and will not be retroactive. <br />Employees must successfully complete the probationary period to be eligible for testing. <br />The Department Head may decide at any time to discontinue bilingual eligibility if the need within the <br />department ceases to exist and/or the skill is not being utilized. The employee will be required to retest <br />every 3 years to verify language capability. Designated employees receiving Bilingual pay may be asked <br />to participate in a call rotation for their division and, on occasion, to assist within another department or <br />division if an urgent matter presents itself. <br />The incentive applies to situations where bilingual skills are optional. If a iob requires bilingual skills the <br />employee is not eligible to receive the above incentive but the language skills will be considered under <br />hiring standards and included in the employee's base salary. <br />Alizchmenl number 1 \n <br />F-12 Page 119 <br />
